## A Rare Piece of Naval History
This is an original Protection Certificate issued to a Royal Navy Volunteer in 1866. The document, printed on thick velum, details the volunteer’s personal information including age, place of birth, residence, occupation, and physical description. It’s a fascinating glimpse into the structure of the Royal Navy’s volunteer forces during the Victorian era, and a tangible piece of maritime history.
## Condition and Collectability
The certificate shows signs of age and handling, with some creasing and minor staining consistent with its age. Despite this, the document remains remarkably well-preserved, and the ink is still clearly legible. This certificate would be a valuable addition to any collection of naval memorabilia, Victorian ephemera, or historical documents, offering a unique insight into the lives of those who served in the Royal Navy Volunteer Force.
